News from Noble City Hall

From City Manager Bob Wade

CHAMBER “COFFEE”

On May 11th the monthly Noble Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Coffee” was hosted by Dr. Harold Haralson and his staff at the Noble Clinic located at 408 N. Main Street.  A nice crowd was on hand (see the attached photo).  Dr. Haralson has operated the clinic in Noble for almost 12 years.  In addition to serving as the Mayor of Norman, he is also now running for State Senate.  The primary will be on June 26, this fall.   The monthly coffee is becoming a crowd favorite for the opportunity to network.  The public is invited to these events.

ROSE ROCK MUSIC FESTIVAL 2012

The 31st Annual Rose Rock Music Festival was a great success.  The Chamber officials have announced that this is unofficially one of the best years ever for fund raising.  The weather was hot, but it was dry!  The Rose Rock Committee is already working on improving the event for next year.  The Car Show was special this year as well as the first Rose Rock Disc Golf Tournament.   The attendance for the Saturday night concert by Etowah Road was excellent.

SPLASH PAD NOW OPEN

The Splash Pad at Dane Park, 525 S. 8th Street, is now open.   The hours are 10 AM to 8 PM every day except Tuesday.  We close to pad down on Tuesdays to do routine maintenance and mowing.  The Splash Pad will be open continuously until after school starts in the fall.  We are planning to replant some of the trees around the pad that died last summer.

CITY TO RECEIVE GRANT FOR SKATEBOARD PARK

The City was notified this week that we have been approved for a $25,000 grant to construct a skateboard park at Dane Park.  The site will be on the land down the hill from the Splash Pad.  The City worked with the Noble Community Coalition and the Noble Public Schools to meet the qualifications to be named a 2011 Award of Excellence by the Oklahoma State Department of Health, the Oklahoma Academy for State Goals, the Oklahoma State Chamber and the Oklahoma Turning Point Council.  The award qualified Noble to apply for the grant from the Tobacco Settlement Trust.

The City is working with Noble Now and the Noble Community Coalition to design the park and raise matching funds.   One of the fund raisers will be bringing back the circus to Noble this fall.

CIRCUS COMING TO TOWN IN SEPTEMBER

On Tuesday September 11, 2012 the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus will come to town.  They will put on two shows:  5 PM and 7:30 PM on the vacant lot just North of City Hall.  This event will be an important fund raiser for the new skateboard park.  Details are still to come, but this will be a real treat for kids to see a circus.  Put it on your list.
