Noble Police Conduct Tobacco Compliance Checks

The Noble Police Department with assistance from Noble Campus Police Officer conducted tobacco ordinance compliance checks recently within the city limits of Noble.  Police identified seven businesses that sell tobacco products to the community.  Underage teenagers were enlisted and monitored as they attempted to purchase a tobacco product by plain clothes officers from each of the stores.  The compliance was conducted to determine if businesses were adhering to state laws and city ordinances concerning the prohibition of the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products to minors. All transactions were videotaped and documented as the unannounced visits were concluded.

Four employees of the businesses in violation were given a written warning letter indicating they disregarded state law and city ordinance for furnishing of tobacco products to minors prohibited.  Police officers explained to each individual the violation and were advised that any future violations may result in possible citation and fine and may cause additional penalties to the business.

Those businesses that were in violation were: Family Dollar, Loyd’s Superette, Super C Mart and Terry’s Market.

The Noble Police Department will continue to conduct periodic compliance checks throughout Noble to make sure alcohol and tobacco products are not readily available to minors.
