From City Manager Bob Wade

CITY ABOUT TO START $345K WATER PROJECT

The City staff will conduct a preconstruction hearing with SMC Utility Construction, on Sept. 4th to kick off a $345,000 water improvement project.  This project funded by a CDBG grant in the amount of $245,000 will replace 6,700 LF of old, undersized water lines in the old town area of Noble.  Residents should be forewarned that there will be some inconvenience during this construction period, which will probably last for the next two months.

NOBLE SWAT TEAM MAKES APPEARANCE BEFORE NOBLE CITY COUNCIL

At the August 17th regular city council meeting, the Noble SWAT (Students Working against Tobacco) Team made a presentation asking the council to support legislation prohibiting the exposure to second hand smoke of minor children while they are being transported in vehicles. SWAT president, Paige Adams,  made an opening statement followed by remarks from all of the SWAT officers.  See the attached photo.Noble was the first municipality in the state of Oklahoma to prohibit the use of tobacco products on any publicly owned property.   The Noble city council actually approved an ordinance on this very night (8-17-15) prohibiting the use of vapor products as well.

DANE PARK REST ROOMS ABOUT COMPLETED;  EAGLE SCOUT PROJECTBEGINS

Dane Park has new restrooms which will be completed in the next few weeks.  We have added restrooms on either side of the existing equipment room near the splash pad.   We also are planning a walking track, a pavilion, a children’s playground.  We also are planning to resurface the splash pad before next year.A new pergola is under construction near the splash pad.  A local eagle scout will construct the wooden structure over a concrete slab that the city has already constructed.  It will provide a shaded area for groups to congregate around the splash pad.  We will include more information on this project later.  The city also will continue to add other sources of shade for that area.

CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER PURCHASE OF NEW AMBULANCESNOBLE TO APPLY FOR PUBLIC ASSISTANCE DUE TO FLOODING

Several years ago the Noble residents approved a 7 year EMS Bond Issue to purchase two new ambulances.  It is hard to believe that the bond issue will pay off in November 2015.  Fire Chief Bob Hall has approached the city to review the possibility of replacing the paid off bond issue with another one that would allow the replacement of the ambulances which are now six and eight years old.   The use of the EMS District bonds has been a godsend for Noble.  There is no other practical way for the city to afford to replace the very expensive ambulances, which now are estimated to cost $200,000.   The Noble City Council will begin consideration on the matter at the Sept. 8th regular meeting.

ANOTHER MOVIE SHOT IN NOBLE

On Sunday Afternoon August 29th, a film crew out of New York City shot portions of a new documentary at Riley Park in Noble.  The documentary features Oklahoma native Toby Keith promoting healthy lifestyles and worthy volunteer efforts.  OKC Mayor MickCornett is also to be featured.    This is the second movie shoot in Noble in the past few weeks.  The first one featured Oklahoman Rex Linn, shooting scenes from a new pilot film on the sidewalks in downtown Noble.
